Internship (Vocational Practice) - Mechatronical Engineering MSc

Mechatronical Engineering MSc students have to carry out a 4-week internship involved in the model curriculum. They are supposed to work at a company, firm over the internship period (in summer). The course (Vocational Pratice or Internship) should previously be signed up for via NEPTUN. Successfully completing internship is the precondition for taking the state exam.

If students started their studies in the fall semester, they are supposed to sign up for internship on Neptun in the second semester and complete it in the summer of the second semester. Those who started their studies in the spring semester are supposed sign up for internship on Neptun in the third semester  (alternatively in the first semester) and complete it in the summer of the third semester (alternatively in the first semester).

  1. Objective of internship, competences

The task assigned during the internship period should be in conformity with the requirements of the Mechatronical Engineering MSc program and the courses taught. Over the internship period students are supposed to familiarize themselves with the operation, main processes of the company, its organizational structure and culture.

Students are supposed to resolve tasks individually assigned by their supervisor and gain experiences which may be utilized later in the labour market.
During internship general and specific competences may be acquired. General competences: precisely work to schedule either individually or in team, applying correct technical terms. Specific competences: practical application of the professional skills acquired during the studies and acquiring new knowledge.

  1. Places suitable for internship

All the organizations, institutions and companies which provide students with the opportunity to acquire proficiency in accordance with their degree program.

A list of possible companies can be found here

Places where students have recently undertaken internship can be found here.

Internship is undertaken at the headquarters of the organizations under the guidance of industrial supervisors assigned by the companies. The task performed by the student in the framework of internship should relate to the professional subjects completed during his/her studies so far.

  1. Documents necessary for starting and completing internship

(Before applying for an internship place and upon the student’s special request the International Office (Faculty of Engineering) can issue a certificate which proves that internship is mandatory and an integral part of the course of studies.)

After students have found a suitable summer internship place, the documents which must be signed are the following: Invitation Letter (1 copy), Internship Cooperation (Company abroad) (2 copies), “Megállapodás” (Company in Hungary) here* (4 copies), Student Agreement (2 copies). Submission deadline: 29 May 20120(Dr Krisztina Tóth, room 120).

If students undertake internship in the Department of Mechatronics (Building Mechatronics Research Centre, Building B), they are supposed to submit the documents, called Invitation Letter and Internship Cooperation (before starting the internship period). Besides this, over the internship period students are supposed to keep a record of their attendance (attendance sheet is available here). At the end of each day spent with work, the receptionist in Building B confirms the time of leaving on the attendance sheet. Having completed internship, students are supposed to hand in the document, called Evaluation Sheet and Certificate along with the internship essay/report.

*According to Hungarian Law concluding an agreement between the company and the university in case of a 4-week internship is not obligatory. The document marked with "*" is necessary in case the company insists on it.

Evaluation Sheet and Certificate must be submitted until 15 September 2020 in room 120.

In certain cases the company gives students insight into confidential documents, so it can happen, the company prefers to conclude a confidentiality agreement with the student. A sample agreement can be found here

It is the duty and responsibility of all students to find a summer internship place. Industrial supervisors are allocated by the internship places. Completion of internship and attendance may be checked on the premises by a person in charge from the HEI (higher education institution). The department has the right – after having obtained some prior information on the company – to refuse the summer internship place before the start of the internship period if it does not meet the requirements of the Mechatronical Engineering MSc degree program. If the student does not receive any notification, the company provided on the Invitation Letter and/or Cooperation is considered to be accepted by the department.

  1. Execution of the internship and its certification
  1. Duration of internship: 4 weeks.
  2. Besides completing internship, students have to write a 10-15-page essay (template) about the work done over the internship period.

The topic and aspects of the essay must be negotiated with the supervisor from the department. The report should include a list of references (literature, internet addresses, documents from the company, personal consultations, etc.), table of contents, date of submission, student's signature.

Formal requirements: Times New Roman 12; 1,5 line spacing; 55-60 characters including spaces per line

Content requirements:
- Introduction: Presentation and structure of the organization. Interpretation, purpose, brief theoretical summary of the task.
- Main chapter: Elaboration of the task.
- Conclusion: Evaluation of the results.

Before submission the supervisor allocated by the internship place should countersign the first page of the report and certify that the task performed is suitable and realistic.

The report is evaluated (accepted – not accepted) by the responsible person (from the department) for internship. Should the report be not suitable, then it is to be modified by the student until a new deadline.

The execution of internship must be certified on the Evaluation Sheet and Certificate.

Deadline for submitting the essay (internship report): 15 September 2020, to Mr Timotei István Erdei in Robotics Lab, Building B (alternatively, via email).
