Important: After a graduand has signed up for the state exam, he/she is considered to be a graduating student, thus dates and deadlines of the study period and exam period for graduating students apply to him/her irrespective of whether he/she is taking non-finalist (14-week) courses or not.
All candidates (independent from the order of candidates taking the state exam) are expected to arrive for the start of the state exam (usually 7:30 a.m.).
Dress code: Candidates are expected to wear something smart which reflects that this is a special and more formal occasion.

Important dates, deadlines for graduands:

Study period for graduating students: 8 February – 9 April 2021
Exam period for graduating students: 12 April – 14 May 2021*
Thesis submission deadline:
12 PM, 30 April 2021

Every necessary grade should be submitted on Neptun by 14 May 2021.

* In case you are taking non-finalist courses (courses which are not in the final semester of the curriculum), the study period (14 teaching weeks) lasts until Friday 14 May 2021. Still, those courses need to be completed until the aforementioned deadline (which is grade submission deadline for graduands), otherwise graduands are not allowed to take the state exam in June. Please inform the instructors on time that you are a graduating student and there is a grade submission deadline for graduands. In case of non-finalist courses instructors can be requested but may not be obliged to provide graduands with exam opportunities in the exam period for graduating students. In the exam/test graduands need to give account of the 14-week teaching material.

In case a graduand has signed up for the state exam previously but for some reasons cannot come, he/she is supposed to inform the Department of Mechanical Engineering and the International Office (Faculty of Engineering) about his/her absence.

The day before the real state exam a so-called mock state exam (a practice exam before the official one, used to practise for the real exam) is conducted:

The final ppt files (on a USB stick) to thesis have to be copied to the university computer and presented on ........, from 8.00 a.m. in room ...... Attendance is obligatory. You are not required to wear something smart in the mock state exam. Grade will not be awarded in the mock state exam. Approx. 8-10 slides should be prepared, the presentation should not take more than 10 minutes.

The order of the candidates taking the state exam and the members of the committee will be announced previously. Committee chair is called upon and mandated by the dean with the consent of the Faculty Council. He/she is selected from the acknowledged internal and external experts of the professional field. The committee consists of – besides the chair – at least two members and the examiner. The number of examination boards is dependent upon the number of candidates.

The committee assesses performance in the state exam and decides on thesis grade and diploma grade in closed sitting after the defences. In controversial cases the chair takes the decision. At the end of the state exam the results are announced by the committee chair.

Calculating diploma grade (curriculum 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020)

Operation and Maintenance Specialization, Automotive Production Process Control Specialization

Grade=(A+B+C)/3, where
A: Average of comprehensive exams (Technical Mechanics Comp. Exam/Mechanics Comp. Exam, Mathematics Comp. Exam)
B: Average of the grades of the subjects of the state exam
C: Grade awarded for defending thesis

Classification of the award:
Outstanding      4,81 – 5,00
Excellent           4,51 – 4,80
Good                 3,51 – 4,50
Satisfactory       2,51 – 3,50
Pass                  2,00 – 2,50

Award with Distinction

An award with Distinction is permitted where a student obtained grade 5 in all subjects of the state exam. The average of thesis grade, his/her exam grades and mid-semester grades during his/her studies is at least 4,00. In addition, he/she is not permitted to have a grade worse than grade 3 during his/her studies.

Improving failed state exam

State exam must be retaken if any of its part is a fail. The ensuing state exam period is the soonest that the re-sit is allowed. Repeated state exam can be taken twice per subject. Once you have successfully passed the state exam, improvement is no longer possible.

Within 30 days of the successful state exam the diploma is issued and given out by the Faculty at the graduand’s special request. Otherwise, the diploma will be awarded to him/her at the graduation ceremony of the Faculty.
The diploma is an official document decorated with the coat of arms of Hungary which verifies the successful completion of studies in the Mechanical Engineering undergraduate program. The diploma contains the following data: name of HEI (higher education institution); institutional identification number; serial number of diploma; name of diploma holder; date and place of his/her birth; level of qualification; training program; specialization; mode of attendance; place, day, month and year issued. Furthermore, it has to contain the dean’s (or vice-dean’s) original signature and the seal of HEI. The University keeps a record of the diplomas issued.
In case a graduand needs to prove the completion of studies before the graduation ceremony, a certificate can be issued at his/her special request. This document does not contain any reference to qualification, it merely proves that the candidate has taken a successful state exam. The Faculty keeps a record of the certificates issued.

Graduands must return all books on loan and pay all outstanding charges before the end of their course or before they leave, otherwise they will not be permitted to take the state exam in the given term. Those who fail to return their books will be charged for the cost of replacement. In the case of those graduating the books must be returned, or the cost of replacement paid, and all other outstanding charges paid until the last working day before the state exam.
